Critics Review
“Intensely moving as well as enchanting in its evocation of childhood, the heartlessness of youth and parental grief as children grow older.”
— Daily Telegraph
Sir James Matthew Barrie
James Matthew Barrie
Born in Kirriemuir, Scotland in 1860, James Matthew Barrie was the celebrated author of Peter Pan. His inspiration for the beloved character came from his close friendship with the Llewelyn-Davies family. Barrie would entertain George and Jack Llewelyn-Davies, the real-life “Lost Boys,” with tales of Neverland.
The story of Peter Pan was first presented as a play, premiering to great success in 1904. Barrie later adapted this play into the novel Peter Pan and Wendy, published in 1911.
In recognition of his literary contributions, Barrie was made a baronet in 1913 and received the prestigious Order of Merit in 1922. He passed away on June 19, 1937.
Proceeds from every copy of his work benefit Great Ormond Street Hospital.
