Sonia Sotomayor
Sonia Sotomayor was born in the Bronx, New York. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Humanities from Princeton University and her Juris Doctor from Yale Law School. She worked as an Assistant District Attorney in New York County before becoming a litigator at the law firm Pavia & Harcourt. In 1991, she was nominated by President George H. W. Bush to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. In 1997, President William Jefferson Clinton nominated her to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. President Barack Obama nominated her to the Supreme Court of the United States as an Associate Justice on May 26, 2009. She took her seat on August 8, 2009, becoming the first Hispanic person to hold such a significant position. She is the author of My Beloved World, Turning Pages, and The Beloved World of Sonia Sotomayor.
Rafael L. López
Rafael L. López is the recipient of the Pura Belpré Medal for Drum Dream Girl and Book Fiesta. He has also received three Pura Belpré Honor mentions, three Americas Book Awards, and in 2017, the Tomás Rivera Children’s Book Award and the Silver Medal from the Society of Illustrators Original Art. His work has been featured in Communication Arts, American Illustration Annual, Graphic Design USA, and the Huffington Post. He is the founder of the San Diego Urban Art Trail movement. He created seven stamps for the United States Postal Service and the official poster for the Obama-Biden presidential campaigns of 2008 and 2012.
