Critics Review
“This is a must-read book for the era now many are referring to as the Anthropocene. Skrimshire brings environmental activism, environmental humanities, and eco-theologies together in ways that are relevant to the environmental humanities in general. Neither an apologetics for Christian theology and its contributions to current planetary crises nor a rejection of the ways in which Christianity might help heal the planet, this book takes to task the problematic transcendent ideas of escape found in some interpretations of eschatology and apocalypse, and highlights ecologically healing resources within Christianity that help us lament and mourn what is lost without losing sight of what planetary future we might hope for in the future.” - Whitney Bauman, Professor of Religious Studies, Florida International University
Stefan Skrimshire
Stefan Skrimshire is Associate Professor of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Leeds, where he teaches political theology and continental philosophy. His research engages both disciplines with the environmental humanities, with a focus on extinction. He is the coeditor of Extinction and Religion (2024), editor of Future Ethics: Climate Change and Apocalyptic Imagination (2010), and author of Politics of Fear, Practices of Hope (2008).
