About The Author

Stephen Waddams

Author

Stephen Waddams was University Professor and holder of the Goodman-Schipper Chair at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto, where he taught since 1968. He was the author of more than 150 articles and books, including Dimensions of Private Law: Categories and Concepts in Anglo-American Legal Reasoning, Principle and Policy in Contract Law: Competing or Complementary Concepts?, Sanctity of Contracts in a Secular Age: Equity, Fairness and Enrichment, The Law of Damages, 7th edn, and The Law of Contracts, 8th edn. He died in May 2023.

Editors

Peter Benson is Professor and holder of the Donald R. Crawshaw Chair in Private Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. He is the author of numerous articles and the book Justice in Transactions: A Theory of Contract Law.

Matthew Beamish is a graduate of the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. His work has been published in the Journal of Contract Law. In 2026-27 he is reading for the LLM degree at the University of Cambridge as a recipient of The Right Honourable Paul Martin Sr Scholarship.
