About The Author
Steve Backshall
Steve Backshall was born in 1973 and grew up on a smallholding in the home counties of England. He studied English at university before pursuing a degree in biology, eventually becoming Adventurer in Residence for National Geographic.
He is best known as the presenter of BBC TV’s Deadly series, for which he has won two BAFTAs. His other documentary series include Steve Backshall’s Extreme Mountain Challenge, Down the Might River, and Steve Backshall and the Vertical Mile. In 2015, he co-presented BBC One’s Big Blue Live alongside Matt Baker and Liz Bonnin, which won the BAFTA Television Award for Best Live Event.
Steve Backshall has also authored numerous books for both adults and children. His most recent publication is Deep Blue—My Ocean Journeys, a book that combines memoir, travel, and marine science, exploring underwater environments and their wildlife around the world.
