About The Author
Tanika Gray Valbrun
Tanika Gray Valbrun is an award-winning journalist, educator, and non-profit founder. After her personal struggles with uterine fibroids, including two myomectomies, Tanika’s passion for women’s health inspired her to create The White Dress Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support for women suffering from fibroids and to raise awareness and for fibroid education. Recognized as a thought leader and patient advocate for uterine health, she has also spoken around the world encouraging women to be their own best health advocate. In addition to encouraging women to be their own health advocates, Tanika works as a Senior Content Producer for CNN, where she has earned three coveted Peabody Awards.
Dr. Soyini Hawkins is a board-certified, fellowship-trained Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgeon and the founder, co-owner, and medical director of the Fibroid and Pelvic Wellness Center of Georgia, located in the suburbs of Atlanta. She earned her medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine and completed a two-year fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and Pelvic Reconstruction at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Her clinical focus includes laparoscopic surgery and the specialized management of fibroids, endometriosis, abnormal uterine bleeding, and pelvic pain, areas she is passionate about both as a surgeon and as a fibroid and endometriosis warrior herself. A nationally recognized expert, she has been featured on various media outlets and serves as an advisor and speaker for leading foundations and industry organizations across the country. Beyond the operating room, Dr. Hawkins is a devoted wife, mother of two, patient advocate, and proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., committed to empowering women to live their healthiest, most fulfilling lives.
