Terry Wogan

Born in Limerick and educated at Crescent College, Terry Wogan’s early career saw him working in banking for five years before joining Radio Telefis Eirann as a newsreader and announcer. He soon transitioned into light entertainment, becoming a disc jockey and host of television quiz and variety shows.

In 1969, Wogan stepped in for Jimmy Young on BBC Radio and was subsequently given his own daily shows on BBC Radio 1 and 2 later that year. In 1972, he took over the coveted morning show slot.

His extensive television career includes the live chat show series WOGAN, SONGS FOR EUROPE, THE EUROVISION SONG CONTEST, COME DANCING, and BLANKETY BLANK, among others.

In 1993, Wogan returned to BBC Radio 2 to host WAKE UP TO WOGAN, which became the UK’s most listened-to breakfast show. In 2005, he was honored with a knighthood.

He was married to the late Lady Helen Wogan and was the father of two sons and a daughter.
