Critics Review
“When I hear bold claims about AI, my skepticism usually follows close behind. Tom Lawry is one of the few people who consistently earns my trust. His perspective is grounded in years of experience, thoughtful leadership, and a genuine passion for improving healthcare. AI in Health is a practical and insightful guide for leaders navigating one of healthcare’s most important transformations.”
John Nosta, Founder, NOSTALAB, Innovation Theorist and author of The Borrowed Mind, USA
“This is an absolute must-read for every leader, CEO and clinician in healthcare. Written with remarkable clarity and prescience, Tom provides us with the toolbox of how to become ‘Intelligent Health Leaders’ that are able to create ‘Intelligent Health Systems’ to successfully navigate the extraordinary transformation underway in healthcare, and critically, how to deploy AI as an empowerment tool which, if used responsibly, can help restore humanity to care rather than strip it away.”
Dr Richard Friedland, BVSc, MBBCh, MBA, CEO Netcare Limited, South Africa
“Tom Lawry cuts through the noise with a clear-eyed, practical, and deeply human approach to building Intelligent Health Systems that remove friction from the patient journey, empower clinicians and patients, and give health professionals more time to do what only humans can do: Care.”
Dr. John Sheehan, Radiologist, Clinical Director, Healthcare Innovator and Builder, Ireland
“Tom Lawry understands that AI has no purpose apart from humanity, making this book an indispensable roadmap for leaders who want innovation to amplify compassion, judgment and the human experience of care.”
Gil Bashe, Chair Global Health & Purpose at FINN Partners, Editor-in-Chief of Medika Life, Author of Healing the Sick Care System: Why People Matter, USA
“This book is both a strategic guide and a leadership manifesto for a health-care system at a critical inflection point. It reframes AI not as a technology initiative, but as a fundamental transformation of healthcare—one that demands courage, clarity, and responsible leadership.
With a compelling blend of real-world insight, data, and practical frameworks, Lawry makes a powerful case: the future of healthcare will not be defined by those who adopt AI, but by those who lead with it. A must-read for healthcare leaders, policymakers, and innovators shaping the next decade of care delivery.”
Kathleen McGrow, DNP, MS, RN, PMP, FHIMSS, FAAN, Global Chief Nursing Innovation Officer, Microsoft Health & Life Sciences, USA
“Nursing is hurtling toward its Blockbuster (video) moment: the critical juncture where the gradual erosion of our workforce suddenly collides with the disruptive, force-multiplying power of artificial intelligence. This essential playbook gives healthcare leaders the pragmatic roadmap they need to empower clinicians at the bedside, govern innovation responsibly, and ensure we lead the future of care rather than becoming obsolete.”
Dan Weberg, PhD, MHI, RN, FAAN (DrNurseDan), USA
“AI in Health is a must-read for healthcare leaders who care about how best to serve patients, support the workforce, and navigate the inflection point created by artificial intelligence. He makes clear that this is not a future scenario—it is a genuine turning point in how care gets delivered. If you care about getting this moment right, this book is where to start.”
Lee Shapiro, 7wireVentures, Co-founder, Transcarent, USA
“What a difference six years has made in the first waves of AI adoption in health care. In updating his book AI in Health published in 2020, Tom Lawry observes that, ‘Done right, AI is not about technology. It is about empowerment.’ And this time around, Tom calls out the emerging era of the Intelligent Health Consumer. It is among consumers that empowerment has been scaling—in their demand for GLP-1s, for convenience and immediacy, and for being heard. Tom makes the case for health care leaders to meet consumers where they are now, empowered by the use of AI and a growing sense of urgency combined with agency.”
Jane Sarasohn-Kahn, Health Economist, Advisor, Trend Weaver, USA
“I spend my days with founders building the future of healthcare, and I’ll be recommending this book. Tom Lawry cuts through the AI hype and shows what it actually takes to move from promising technology to intelligent health systems that deliver. If you’re building, buying, or selling health AI, start with this book. Tom’s insights equip healthcare leaders to lead AI transformation rather than react to it.”
Sally Ann Frank, Global Lead, Health & Life Sciences, Microsoft for Startups, and author of The Startup Protocol and The Unicorn Protocol, USA
“With the narrative skill of a historian and the foresight of a strategist, Tom Lawry articulates with enduring significance lessons learnt from past technology revolutions, underscoring the shifting cultural zeitgeist surrounding AI and our collective responsibilities to think responsibly about AI’s future trajectory—and in doing so, Tom becomes precisely the kind of forward-thinking voice he argues healthcare needs. This is a clarion call for leaders to shepherd AI’s evolution judiciously, ensuring its benefits reach everyone, not just the few. Essential reading for leaders, physicians, and patients alike.”
Damian Doherty, Editor-in-Chief, Inside Precision Medicine, UK
“An outstanding AI book and must-read for everyone in healthcare. Tom Lawry describes Healthcare AI in such a way that anyone at any level will understand what’s here and how to prepare for the AI evolution, which will enhance patient care and ease the stress placed on the dwindling number of professionals in the field. He uses valid statistics from well-respected sources to validate his predictions and recommendations. One of my favorite quotes from the book: ‘AI is not something to be delegated to IT. It’s something that must be led.’”
Paul Garrin, Chief Information Officer, Urban Health Plan, USA
