Tony Caramanico has lived a full surfing life. Catching his first wave in 1963 at his native Gilgo Beach, New York, Tony’s 60 years of surfing has spanned the breadth of the sport itself. From the development of wetsuits, producing one of network televisions first ever surf programs in ‘American Sportsman’ to traveling the world as a competing professional there are few people who have delved deeper within surfing’s culture. Acutely aware of his exuberant existence, Tony began chronicling his daily life via his unique brand of journaling in the early 80’s. After meeting renowned artist Peter Beard in Montauk, New York. Tony was invited to live and apprentice with Peter, using this time to guide his artistic process. Melding collage work, stream of consciousness writing and both surf/pop cultural references, Tony’s journals paint an intricate picture of freedom, joy and Tony’s undying passion for a surfing life.
