About The Author
Tony Warner
Tony Warner established Black History Walks in 2007, consisting of 15 guided walks, bus tours, and other initiatives that explore the extensive Afro-Caribbean history in London.
Tony is also the co-founder and chair of the African Odysseys programme, a monthly screening of African diaspora films and Q&As at the British Film Institute’s Southbank Centre. He has been exhibiting films about Black history in various venues since 2000, and pioneered community partnerships and lectured at institutions like the Imperial War Museum, National Portrait Gallery and Museum of London/Docklands.
Tony has written and presented documentaries for Teachers TV, and is an author on Pearson’s textbook that introduced Black British Civil Rights at GCSE level. He also created a 26-week course for pupils to improve self-esteem and academic performance.
As a management consultant specialising in diversity, Tony has led workshops and diversity training for corporate, government, and educational clients including Transport for London, Cable and Wireless, the Financial Times, Penguin Books and Enterprise Rent a Car.
Since 2011, Tony has sponsored 10 Nubian Jak blue plaques in honour of Black historical figures, and in 2021 he was selected as the first ever Activist in Residence at University College London’s Sarah Parker Remond Centre for the Study of Racism and Racialisation.
