This nostalgic book follows the story of the last class-divided passenger ships that carried travellers from point to point. Not port-filled cruise ships, in those final years, spanning the 1940s through the 1950s and into the 1960s, they carried Hollywood stars and even royalty on the Atlantic, businessmen to South America and Africa, migrants to Australia and New Zealand, and visitors returning to European homelands. This book nods to the Atlantic liners but also revels in the many other passenger ships, each divided by region, that plied trades around the world, vessels like the Antilles, Oslofjord, Kampala and Changsha. It is a nostalgic parade of a bygone age, a generation of ships all but swept away in the sixties and seventies as jet travel changed the world. AUTHOR: William H. Miller, or ‘Mr Ocean Liner’, has written scores of books on passenger ships and is an acknowledged world expert in his field. He has received the National Maritime History Award in the US, the Silver Ribband Award and he created the passenger ship database for the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. He has been a lecturer aboard 75 different ships, including over 100 trips with Cunard.
