About The Author

Yoshikazu Yasuhiko

Yoshikazu Yasuhiko is a Japanese animator and manga artist, also noted as a published author and an illustrator of children’s and young adult books. His career as a character designer has spanned three decades, creating famed characters for anime such as Space Cruiser Yamato, Brave Raideen, and the widely known Mobile Suit Gundam. Considered a pivotal player in mecha and sci-fi anime, Yasuhiko’s characters, stories, and illustrations are unmistakable in their style and serve as timeless examples of pioneers in manga and animation in Japan.

Born in 1947, Yasuhiko began his career as an animator at Osamu Tezuka’s Mushi Production, later becoming freelance to work on numerous animation productions for both film and television. In 1981, he received the Seiun Award for Best Artist of the Year. Accolades continued when he took home the Nippon Mangaka Kyokai (Japan Cartoonists Society) award in 1992, followed by an Excellence Prize in manga for Odo no Inu at the Japan Media Arts Festival in 2000. Continuing his work with Gundam, Yasuhiko has written the manga Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin and provided character design for Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn.
