Selwyn O. Rogers, Jr.

Selwyn Rogers, Jr., MD, MPH, FACS

Dr. Selwyn Rogers, Jr. is the Section Chief of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and the James E. Bowman, Jr., MD Professor at The University of Chicago Medicine. He also played a key role in establishing the Violence Recovery Program at the institution.

A renowned trauma and critical care surgeon and public health expert, Dr. Rogers has held leadership positions at prominent healthcare institutions nationwide, including Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), Temple University School, and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. In 2024, he was elected to the National Academy of Medicine.

Dr. Rogers received his undergraduate degree from Harvard College, graduating magna cum laude, and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his surgery residency and his fellowship in surgical critical care at BWH. Additionally, Dr. Rogers holds a master’s degree in public health from Vanderbilt University.
